Gamers Target: Engaged

It’s safe to say that Fallout 4 has been one of the most anticipated game releases of 2015. In fact, Bethesda Softworks’ latest installment in the Fallout series had quite an effect on Pornhub’s traffic on the day that it was released. The Pornhub Insights team took a look at at traffic change among gamers after the Fallout 4 release and the results were quite surprising.

Pornhub’s statisticians were able to determine that a large number of their 60 million daily visitors are gamers. On November 10th, 2015, when Fallout 4 was released, traffic began to drop as of 5am and dropped as much as 10% by noon. Traffic soon returned to normal, however it dropped again after 6pm when it was assumed that gamers who had been at work all day were finally home and able to play.


Taking all of this into account, it is clear that the gaming demographic is strong on Pornhub and our entire network in general. According to Forbes, the 18 to 35 year old is by far the most active gaming demographic, which accounts for a little over half of our daily visitors. By now, it is no secret that video games, and the culture associated with it, have increased exponentially in popularity over time and have had quite a significant influence on popular culture.

Video games are impacting many industries including music, TV, politics and more. According to DFC analyst Michael Goodman, “Video games have reached beyond adolescent males into a mainstream entertainment medium that touches every segment of the population,”. In the last decade alone, video games have outperformed Hollywood movies and are drawing people away from movie theaters, and television. The 8 year old kid playing Pac Man at the arcade has grown up and matured into a consumer with a family, varying interests and disposable income.  According to a report from research firm Newzoo, it is predicted that $91.5B will be spent globally on video games in 2015.

The key thing to take away from all of this is that gamers are here, they are plentiful, and they are spending. Their demographic is large as well as incredibly diverse. There are social gamers, mobile gamers, professional gamers, casual gamers and the list goes on. It’s a huge market with huge possibilities and for any advertiser.
